We are fueling' the pain
We are fueling' the pain: "Don Redman, AAA spokesman for Mississippi, said a driver of an average-size sedan is paying about 2 cents more a mile, or $300 per year, on gasoline. People are still planning their summer road trips, he said, but are choosing destinations closer to home.
He said that because gas is sold in a competitive market, proximity to refineries such as Chevron's Pascagoula refinery do not have much of an impact on prices."

Let There Be Shade
The weather is beautiful today, so I am in the yards doing what you do to maintain one -- like lots of weeding, mowing and planting. We need a little rain and although it is forecast a week in advance, it hasn't rained yet. I put a sprinkler in the side yard and it was hitting three side windows but I thought I would clean the windows at the same time. Good idea huh? NO!! When I came inside for a cup of coffee, there was water inside. Shoot! Well I have tried many things since I lost my husband not because I have any desire to do something different but because it always becomes necessary. So now I will attempt to replace the dried out "putty" or "caulk"?
I think most of us down here are just going on with our lives in spite of the problems. My daughter sent me a couple of articles and they made me angry. Yes Southerners can get angry. Don't kick us when we are down .. give us a chance to stand on our feet. If a person is coming here only to gather news and to speak ill of the people .. don't come again. Of course, things look bad down here .. we had a major disaster. By the way, we didn't have zillions of Waffle Houses or zillions of Dollar General stores before the storm. It was meant as a "put down" I am sure. Stupid!
As for our clogged arteries, let me ask how many of you out there really believe you are going to live way past the usual time span given to each of us? We are dying at approximately the age that people through the centuries arrived at. We have become too self-centered. Men and women are lifting their faces, parts of their bodies, starving to attain the enviable figure .. by all means don't go out in public if your "Abs" aren't rock hard. In aspiring for wealth and acclaim we are losing compassion for our fellowman. We all have some very rough times coming and thinking that it can't happen to you would be foolish. Maybe it won't come in the form of a hurricane or a tornado but how about famine or a foreclosure on your homes? In the blink of an eye, it can change quickly.
Oh! I hope you don't think that I believe I will be around to see the above maple trees reach a height to shade the house. They will one day benefit someone. I'll see you again.

Most articles about the Catholic Church that I belong to start out somewhat normal but, as usual, the news takes the "good" and permeates it with "bad". For the few of you that may come to my site, please read or listen to what the Vicar of Christ has to say.

It's a terribly depressing looking day... no sunshine. The excessive rain we have been having is making my house take on black and green mold again. The grounds are so saturated that planting flowers is out of the question. I have started some seedlings inside hoping that the weather will become favorable for planting soon.
The daughter and I still are having bouts with depression. You would think that after almost three years that we would be over it huh? Nope, it comes and goes. Anita is the author of Did We Survive Hurricane Katrina Or Not, so I helped myself to a quote that she has on her blog that I think describes how most people feel that suffer loss as we have in coastal Mississippi.
"A man's house burns down. The smoking wreckage represents only a ruined home that was dear through years of use and pleasant associations. By and by, as the days and weeks go on, first he misses this, then that, then the other thing. And when he casts about for it he finds that it was in that house. Always it is an essential -- there was but one of its kind. It cannot be replaced. It was in that house. It is irrevocably lost. It will be years before the tale of lost essentials is complete, and not till then can he truly know the magnitude of his disaster..."

I have been away from my writings for awhile now. Each time I attempt to make a comeback and think that I will write again with enthusiasm as I did on my Camille and Katrina Were not Ladies blog, I revert back to rather long periods where I disappear. I can't blame it on writer's block as we certainly have many subjects to "spin off" on in our area. When I re-read my writings over the past 2 1/2 yrs., I see that what I reported on in the then "present" time .. has not happened. There are still people in Fema trailers and no place to go because of high rent. It seems that many take advantage of disasters to make a profit and I find that abhorrent as we all should.
My hometown, Pascagoula, had a list out months ago on the streets that would be repaired and in what year. That has all gone by the wayside now so they are patching "potholes" which everyone knows, no matter where you live, that eventually they return as bigger potholes. They are repairing sections of the streets with rectangle shaped blacktop strips but now, instead of blowing your tires out from falling into a pothole, your vehicle now dips first before it bumps.
I decided to get out today and take updated pictures of the pier on the beach and the post office. Although the pier, in my opinion, isn't as pretty as the destroyed one, I console myself with the fact that there is one there. The post office is coming along slowly.. no workers there today. I think the Fema trailer that has been Pascagoula's post office since after the storm is showing wear and tear. We need to get the post office completed and open for business soon or else we will need another trailer.
AND on the home front ,,, I am still working around the house. Occasionally, I am disturbed with the wacko neighbor next door. He is always up to something and I usually get the "butt" end of his actions. He decided to cut all the trees down in his back yard. Any branches or twigs that I have that can't be bagged are stacked neatly in the front of my house with the bagged leaves laying beside them. The neighbor had been cutting trees in his yard for a couple of days and I noticed that my stack of a few twigs and branches seemed to be growing. On trash day my black bags were not picked up as they were buried under his tree cuttings. My mailbox was blocked and the postman had to get out of his truck to deliver my mail. This situation lasted for a week until I called the public works department.
At this point, I have plans to return!
